Six weeks ago I had ankle replacement surgery combined with heal surgery (Calcaneal Osteotomy). I was very pleased with the way things went at the Nuffield both with the treatment by the well coordinated team and also by the aftercare before discharge. I have had no pain during recovery and the use of my ankle has gradually returned. The surgical boot is no longer required; I can drive and walk short distances. The wound in my ankle has healed and hardly noticeable and the deeper wound to my heel is well advanced. I will be seen again in three months time, but do not see any prob;lems. Well done and worth every penny in these times when COVID rules and NHS surgery is somewhat indeterminate.

As a keen long distance runner I found myself suffering with Plantar fasciitis for over 2years. Giving up running was not an option for me and after endless trips the the GP, being told to stretch, given physio techniques and cortisone injections my plantar partially ruptured leaving me unable to walk let alone run! I was relieved to finally find someone who not only specialised in Orthopaedics but also understood my passion for running... Dr Dawe suggested with confidence that calf relief surgery would be of great benefit to me and would allow me to continue to run. November 2019 I had my surgery, unable to weight bare and now in July 2020 I am running 10 miles :) Thank you!

Edward was a caring and listening and highly skilled consultant throughout my stay and indeed after care at Chichester. I had no appreciation of how breaking a bone/bones cann upset ones life and Edward made it all bearable. 4 months on I am walking 3-4km per day and without significant pain. I also recommend the Physio Edward recommended at the Boxgrove Clinic Fantastic thankyou to Edward and his team. Stuart

I cannot fault the care I was given by Mr Dawe he has been informative all the way through the process. I had had two previous ankle surgeries at Worthing hospital that were not successful but Mr Dawe gave me reassurance about this operation and I am relieved that it has been successful. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others. The after care and advice has been positive too - even in the difficult time with covid19 he has assured me he is always accessable. Thank you so much Me Dawe.

Profile

Mr Dawe is a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon specialising in disorders of the foot and ankle.

He treats orthopaedic trauma, as well as a wide variety of foot and ankle pathologies such as bunions, lesser toe problems, arthritis, flat or high-arched feet, foot complications of diabetes and complex revision surgery of all types.

Mr Dawe uses numerous techniques to help with foot and ankle problems and is often able to avoid surgery. Where surgery is needed, arthroscopic or ‘keyhole’ techniques or minimally invasive surgery can often be used to improve the experience and recovery time after surgery.

Mr Dawe completed his training in South West London, during which he worked for numerous different foot and ankle surgeons in London, Sussex and Surrey.

He broadened his experience with limb reconstruction and complex trauma fellowship at St George's Hospital with Alex Trompeter and, following this, a second year-long fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital with Heath Taylor.

Mr Dawe was awarded the BOFAS visiting fellowship in 2014, travelling to the Schonklinik in Munich in order to work with Prof Markus Walther, president of the German foot and ankle society. He also travelled to Regions Trauma Centre in Minneapolis to visit the renowned trauma specialist professor Peter Cole.

Mr Dawe works as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon in West Sussex. He has been involved in developing the future of his specialty, publishing numerous research papers and having been awarded first prizes for his work at national and international meetings.
